This Week at BCHMCPS

Hello BCHMCPS!

Barnstable Junior Girl Scout Troop 80095 has many alumnae of BCHMCPS. We are working on a Community Service Project and we are going back to our Community-minded school to ask for help.

We are collecting donations for the homeless. We have been working with Sgt. Jennifer Ellis of the Barnstable Police Department Community Impact Unit. She will help us distribute our collections to the proper Homeless Agencies in need.

We are looking for new white socks, sunblock and other toiletries. All donations are welcome, but there has been a need identified for woman’s clothes and toiletries in particular.

We will be collecting donations in a donation box near the front office and would be so appreciative of your support.

Please send your donations in by Friday, June 15th.

Again, thank you and enjoy your summer!

Don't forget the June 6 School Committee meeting. At this time the Barnstable School Committee  will be voting whether they will renew BCHMCPS's charter for another 5 years.
What does this mean?
  • A NO vote means that next year will be the last year for BCHMCPS and our school will return to be a district, not charter, school.
  • A YES vote means that BCHMCPS will continue as a charter school making independent decisions for the education of your children.
  • PLEASE come to the June 6  meeting to tell the School Committee about what you think about your child's educational experience and how you they should vote.
  • Please contact the School Committee members ahead of time about what you think. School Committee members' contact information is on the Barnstable Public Schools' website: https://www.barnstable.k12.ma.us/domain/41

At Barnstable Community  Horace Mann Charter Public School we believe in parents as part of the decision making process. As parents and residents of Barnstable you have the right and opportunity to show your support for our school.  You may make a brief statement as to why this school is important to you and our community or simply help us fill the room with supporters!

 Notes from Nurse Melley:

Attention Third Grade Parents:

State law requires that your child have a physical exam in the third grade. I am still missing several physicals. If you have a copy of his/her most recent physical please drop off at the health office or put in your child's backpack. If you have and questions please contact Mrs. Melley @ 508  790-6495.
Now that the nice weather is finally here we try and go outside as much as we can. Please remember to dress your child appropriately for playing outside at the playground. Sneakers and closed toed shoes are the best . Remember to apply sunscreen before school and, especially if your child is going on a field trip. Enjoy the nice weather. Go for a walk around your neighborhood or, go for a bike ride. It's fun and it is good exercise.

Reminder- this Friday is the Memorial Day All School Community meeting at 9:30 at teh HYCC. We look forward to seeing you there.
Also, thus Friday is a 12:00 dismissal and NO afternoon Day Care.

Fun Run and Grade One!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the big day- the Fun Run! It is going to be a great day for everyone! Thank you to all the generous donors who are supporting this event to raise funds for BCHMCPS and a great big shut out to PTO President Louisa Grauel for her hard work in coordinating this fund and "fun" raiser! We hope to see many of our families tomorrow at the Fun Run.

Speaking of running, I want to also congratulate Grade 1. First Grade was able to buy 12 pairs of sneakers with the $163 collected during our Pennies for People community service project! Way to go Grade 1!

Week of May 7

This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week! The PTO has generously arranged for treats during the week to show their appreciation for the great BCHMCPS teachers. Thank you PTO and a REALLY BIG THANK YOU to all the BCHMCPS teachers!!

Your children may have come home to tell you about the video they saw last week promoting the BCHMCPS Fun Run. The Fun Run will take place next week! Students learned also about this year's character program called Castle Quest. It’s an English castle theme about being brave and living with character. Students will LOVE this story.

Next week there will be more information about how you can support this fundraiser. In the meantime please let family and friends know that you will be looking for sponsors for your child's Fun Run to support the PTO and student field trips!

At tomorrow's monthly Principal Coffee (9:00-9:30 in the cafeteria) there will be more information about the Fun Run and how you can get involved in the school's PTO efforts!

Reminder for Grade 3 families- Math MCAS is this Wednesday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child/ren are in to school on time and well rested. Thank you!

Happy May! As we welcome May we also will be welcoming much warmer weather this week! The winter coats, hats and mittens can become a distant memory as shorts and light spring jackets take their place. One of the wonderful PTO events coming up for this May is the Boosterthon Fun Run!
